İtalyan asıllı bir ressam olan Luigi Mayer (1755-1803), Osmanlı ülkesinin çeşitli yörelerinden görüntüler sunan, arkeolojik sitleri ve önemli yapıları belgeleyen resimler yapmıştır. 18. yüzyılın "Boğaziçi Ressamları”ndan olan Mayer, David Roberts’dan önce Orta Doğu'yu en detaylı resmetmiş Avrupalı ressam kabul edilir. Sanatçının özgün suluboyalarının çoğu bugün Londra Victoria ve Albert Müzesi'ndeki Rodney Searight koleksiyonundadır. Eserlerinin başarısına rağmen hayatı hakkında bilinenler azdır.
